Playground includes a small model of the George Washington Bridge, which is incorporated into a climbing structure, rocks to climb on, basketball field and includes Robert Moses era bathroom building.
Supported by a concerned group of local mothers who hold an annual daffodil planting event, this playground, from which you can see the Hudson river, is located on 163rd and Riverside drive, where the high ground and the low ground of Riverside Drive come together. Contains swings for smaller children, a building with restrooms, and a moderate amount of climbing equipment, which is kept in good condition.
Probably the closest full playground, reachable by a path that cuts through the public housing on 157th and Amsterdam. Does feel safe during the day.
Opened in late September 2005, this playground is most appropriate for small children up to the age of about 5 or 6. Nice setting, under trees, with lots of space to run around. Entrance at 156th Street and Edgecombe Avenue. Head east on 157th street; at the dead end, descend a flight of steps to Edgecombe; the playground is one block to the south.
Entrances on 145th and 138th and Riverside Drive. Reachable also through the number 11 and BX 19 bus. Includes indoor and outdoor swimming, skating rink, playgrounds, picnic grounds. Requires walking once you are inside the park.
